Eric Stewart with Design Development Architects mentioned this to me the other day and I thought it qualified as a "Reviteristic".
When you use the File menu > Load from Library > Load Family you get to load as many families as you can select in a single folder.
When you use one of the various tools to place a component and then choose to Load a new family you only get to load ONE. Eric wonders why? I wonder why? Seems a bit arbitrary to limit us to just one selection in this mode. Using the component placement tools doesn't seem to warrant the limitation.
I say off with the "shackles"!!

Which of the various tools to place a component and then choose to Load a new family you only get to load one are you refering to, i can't seem to find one.
The only logic that I can think of for the single selection is that it becomes the current family to be placed. It would be more random with a multiple selection.
However, I agree that it would be great to be able to load multiple families from any of the load dialogs.
When you place a component a "Load" button appears on the Options Bar. It is also available in the Properties Dialog for a selected element.
It seems to only limit to one item if you select an element to load and there isn't any elements currently in the model of that specific type. It tells you there is no "X" family of that type do you want to load. If you select yes this is where it only limits you to one. After you have at least one of that perticular type already loaded you can then selct the Load button in the options bar and here you can load multiple types.
