AUGIWorld and AUGI | AEC EDGE

BLAUGI recently posted some news about the two eZines that AUGI produces. The short story is that AUGI | AEC EDGE (AAE) is "no more". It will be combined with AUGIWorld (AW). As the editor for AAE you might think that I'm sad or shocked that I'm suddenly out of work. I actually started the ball rolling by asking some questions and making some suggestions. The end result is that AW will become a monthly eZine and take on some of the formatting that AAE used. For the near future I'll be the Editor-in-Chief. The next issue of AW will explain things in a bit more detail.

Going forward we will be seeking authors and articles for the broad spectrum of products that AUGI members use and we'll be working on a monthly basis so more and more often!! Stay tuned!

In 2009 Autodesk User Group International launched a new publication – AUGI | AEC Edge. Devoted to the AEC market, it was started so that AEC articles could be published on a regular basis. The magazine was published on a seasonal basis but had no set release schedule.

In late 2010 the AUGI Board began a review of all current publications and entered into 2011 with the goal of increasing content and increasing regularity on issue dates. As such, the AUGI Board has made the following adjustments, starting with a new February 2011 AUGIWorld issue.

• AUGI | AEC EDGE will be rebranded as AUGIWorld.
• The A/E/C content will remain, the articles and columns that have been embraced by our subscribers and the industry will continue.
• New industry content such as Civil and Manufacturing will be added.
• AUGIWorld will increase publication to monthly.
• AUGI | AEC Edge will cease title publication however all past issues will remain available online.

Everything that was great about AUGI | AEC Edge will continue, just under the AUGIWorld masthead. Feature content topics will be expanded in the future to include regular Civil and Manufacturing sections. Distribution via email notification to all opt-in subscribers will be increaseing from the 90,000 AUGI | AEC EDGE subscribers to 130,000 AUGIWorld subscribers.

And all content will be available online via the new AUGI Library. We look forward to the expanded reach of AUGI membership content.

AUGI | AEC EDGE Fall 2010 Available

The newest issue of AUGI | AEC EDGE, Fall 2010, is now available. There are high and low resolution pdf copies available now.

I'm not sure what the status of the online reader version is right now. I'll post again when I know more.

Fwiw, the naming of the issues has been a little confusing even for me at times. The intention was to publish each issue at the "end" of the season it is named for. The timing has been a bit later than the literal end of some seasons. This issue is the last one that will use this approach.

This year AUGI intends to have six issues instead of four. The naming for each will be based on months. That means the next issue will be for Jan/Feb 2011 (accepting proposals now!) and be release at the end of February, if I have my facts straight. AUGI also has been discussing taking the production internal and using the same graphics and publishing team that has been handling AUGI World. Change is the only constant!

AUGI | AEC EDGE Articles for Jan/Feb 2011 Issue

We are looking for contributors to the Jan/Feb 2011 issue of AUGI | AEC EDGE. We'll be reaching out to past authors but if any readers are feeling motivated to write something we'd love to hear about it. We are looking for articles focused on construction, collaboration, Revit Structure and civil engineering.

Deadline is January 10th for finished work, just shy of four weeks away! Feel like writing something over the holidays?? I know that might be pushing it, can't hurt to ask! Up for it??

AUGI | AEC EDGE - Article Plugs

There are many articles to choose from in the latest issue of AUGI | AEC EDGE but I'm writing to plug a couple today.

The first is "Lessons of BIM" by Laura Handler (bim(X) blog)and Courtney Pagani. They are both part of Q5 an affliate of Tocci Building Corporation.

The second is "The Mass Family Editor". It is written by Marcello Sgambelluri and as the title implies, it is for family editors (and conceptual massing too). He works for John A. Martin in Los Angeles. He's been spending many hours poking away at it and he shares a bit of what he's discovered during that time.

Pick a Favorite Article - AUGI | AEC EDGE

The Summer 2010 Issue is just about ready, any day now. If it isn't obvious the eZine comes out after the end of the season it is named for. Well...somewhere nearish the end of the season, that's the goal. Stay tuned and watch the site for this new cover!

I know it is asking a lot but I'd be interested in hearing which article you enjoyed the most in all the issues of AUGI | AEC EDGE. I know that different ones will resonate with different readers but it will be interesting to see if any particular articles standout.

Our publisher is interested in including the most popular one in a special separate publication they do that features all of Autodesk product related articles. I hope I can cajole you into thinking about this and telling me via EMAIL and/or respond to the post at AUGI or LinkedIn.

AUGI | AEC EDGE - Seeking Department Editors

There are two departments in AUGI's eZine AUGI | AEC EDGE called; Inside Track and Heads UP. We'd like to find two people that are interested in taking these departments over, one person for each or one person to take over both depending on your interest.

Your task is to compile information that will be useful and interesting to our members and readers as time passes between issues and compile this information into each department's space for each issue. Ideally with some passion and effort you could make it a lot better than I've been doing. This means you need to stay plugged in to what's going on around us to help us stay informed (and not just in the Revit "sphere").

• Inside Track is intended for recent developments, interesting products, Autodesk Lab items etc.
• Heads UP - bugs, recent known issues other red flag items for Autodesk software that might get missed and worth echoing. It can also be culled from recent member posts advising of an issue that has yet to be acknowledged.

AUGI | AEC EDGE Spring 2010 issue is posted

The next issue of AUGI | AEC EDGE is finally out. Each issue is intended to arrive at the end of the season. Unfortunately my workload made it harder than usual to meet our intended deadlines. All that is behind me now...it's posted!

AUGI | AEC EDGE - Correction

As editor of the magazine, AUGI | AEC EDGE, I'm supposed to catch errors and keep things well organized. It seems that somewhere along the line I managed to miss the fact that Bruce Gow's article went missing!!! So poor Bruce was excited to find that his article was not anywhere to be found...so sorry mate!!

As a consolation prize I'm going to make sure his mean boss Shane sends him to AU this year no matter what!! (yeah I know he isn't mean and he's already sending you...but it sounds much better if it seems like I can actually influence him?)

I'll make sure his article gets in the next issue and hopefully since the missing one was part one of two I'll get them both and wrap them up into one nice article for our readers. First round or two or three is on me at AU Bruce! That's Foster's you want right? *-)

AUGI | AEC EDGE call for papers Update

The latest information has our deadline moving forward (closer) to September 18, 2009. This deadline is the publishers deadline for us to submit content. So our internal (AUGI) deadline is September 12, 2009. The magazine will be published at the end of September or first week October.

We are also considering a special Autodesk University issue so if you couldn't pull off something for the next issue perhaps you have time to offer something for this AU issue assuming it goes forward.

Last, submission information about process and calendar is being added to the magazine website so that there will be a quick easy way to see what's up.

Call for Papers - AUGI | AEC EDGE

If you work in the AEC "space" then I'm interested in what you do and how you do it using Autodesk's software. Why? Because I am the editor of AUGI|AEC EDGE

The first issue of this magazine had a focus on Revit and BIM. We had to start somewhere and let's face it, I'm comfortable with Revit so that part was easy. Reaching out to the other software users is a little harder. Posting this on this blog isn't the best place either so I'll be reaching out using other tactics too.

If you read this blog and know someone who uses the other products and would be interested in writing for the magazine I'd like to hear from you or them. If you use other products as well then I'd like to hear from you too.

Rather than call on the same authors for every issue I hope to bring fresh and heretofore unknown authors out and give them a chance to say what's on their mind. AUGI members are our first source of talent and if you aren't a member we can resolve that easy enough, it's free to join after all!

AUGI | AEC EDGE is out!

As I mentioned in an earlier post the new magazine was nearly complete. When I wrote the earlier post my editing work was finished and just waiting on the publishing side of things to get wrapped up.

I just received the announcement from AUGI that other members should be receiving over the next couple days as the email "bot" does its work.
