Can't Delete Toposolid Points and Guardian

 A quick follow up post on my prior post about deleting toposolid points. Scott Brown isolated the issue his team was having to their use of a 3rd Party tool called Guardian. When they disabled it they could delete points as expected again. If your firm uses Guardian too then check in with them about an update to see if it has been resolved yet.

Delete Toposolid Points

Seems like a simple thing but only the Delete key on the keyboard will delete a point in the toposolid, at least while using Revit 2024.1. No, the Backspace key doesn't "delete" either.

Deleting All Levels

I have been telling people for years that Revit needs at least one level to function. As proof, if you only have one level you'll find that Revit won't let you delete it, the last one. The Delete button is disabled and it ignores you if you tap the Delete key.

I find it disturbing and interesting that it IS possible to delete all the levels as long as you select all of them and delete them together, at the same time. No complaint from Revit at all.

That seems like more like a bug than a feature to me. It works this way as far back as v2013, as far back as I've tested it.

What if you've done that, deleted all of them? You'll probably be a bit disappointed at the condition of what was your model...but just open an elevation view and create a new level(s).

Deleting Spaces or Rooms in Schedules

Want to delete all the Spaces or Rooms you see in a schedule? Take these steps:

• Scroll the bottom of the schedule
• In one fluid sequence click to select the last row (left mouse button) and...
• Drag your cursor UP until it is over the ribbon (yes, beyond the schedule)
• Let go of the left button
• Click Delete

Revit will prompt with a total number of elements that will be deleted. It should match however many was listed in the grand total. Wherever you put your cursor in the schedule and drag up to the ribbon, Revit will let you delete all rooms from there to the top of the schedule even though it is off screen

If you try the same thing from the top down you only get as many rows as are visible in the schedule window.

Revit 2015 Pinned Elements

Revit 2015 won't be as compliant as it used to be when you attempt to delete elements that have been pinned, and that is good!

An exception to this is when you pin a hosted family like a door for example. If you pin a door and delete the host wall Revit will go right ahead and delete the door too. Not even a warning that the door was pinned. Face-Based families like light fixtures don't suffer the same fate as element based (wall, floor, ceiling, or roof) families. I'm not particularly surprised by this. Just be aware of it so you don't rely on it for every circumstance.

Dept. of Duh - Deleting a System the Easy Way

Okay I'm not the sharpest tack at times. Using Revit MEP, I was asked how best to delete a system, like a circuit or supply air system. I started to suggest it was easy using the System Browser. One of the students then said, "Why don't you just use the delete key?". Uh...well that works too! It isn't obvious, at least it wasn't to me, but you can select your system and hit the DELETE key, gone it is! You can also activate the Modify Ribbon to click on the Delete button (Red X). It's pretty effective eh?? Here's a VIDEO just in case this text is mumbo jumbo.
